Plot Summary

Jinsei (Japanese: 無名の人生 / Mumei no Jinsei, meaning "The Life of the Nameless One") is a 2026 Japanese animated drama written, directed, edited, and entirely hand-drawn by Ryuya Suzuki in his feature directorial debut, working as the film's sole animator over 18 months. The film traces the 100-year life of an unnamed boy from Sendai who, after a chance encounter with a transfer student, follows his father's path and rises improbably to fame as a J-pop idol. The voice cast includes Japanese rapper Ace Cool as the protagonist, with Taketo Tanaka, Shohei Uno, Tsubaki Nekoze, Remi Tyon, Eri Kamataki, Ryotaro Nishino, Ayumu Nakajima, Katsuya Maiguma, Miho Ohashi, and Kanji Tsuda. Suzuki also composed the music. Set against contemporary Japanese social issues — including the dark side of the entertainment industry, elderly drivers, the unknown deaths of young people, and war — the film explores themes of identity, fame, generational inheritance, isolation, and destiny. It premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2025 and was released in Japan on January 9, 2026.
